Ok, are we all on the same page? Good. I mean, once again this fellow Virgo speaks to me through her music, and I’ll tell you what I heard…That we all have journeys we go through with our bodies and learning how to turn that into something amazing. So, let me tell you where I’m at today: I am so sick of not feeling good in my own skin. I have all the coping skills you think one would need, and I STILL am not kind to my body. Why? I mean I can offer 900 reasons why, from childhood trauma, to being a kid in the 90s that looked up to Kate Moss, to wearing low waisted jeans, to social media, to how age and kids change things. The list goes on, and I still struggle with my body. Until I heard this song. I first listened to it at the gym (usually where I test new music out anyways). I jammed out as I lifted my 12.5lbs weights and started to do a little shaky shake AND ok, queen, I hear you…and kept doing my thing! It has a dope beat and also reminds me about how the imperfections I have are a result of a lifetime of blessings and struggles. My “story” if you will. Then, there’s a part in the song where Bey does this grunt thing (you’ve heard in her other songs), and it’s like a freaking call sign to bad assery. So, I hit repeat and listened again, and again, and again (this time actually looking at the lyrics). And for that three minute and thirty second song, played on repeat a few times, I felt strong and empowered and grateful, that my body is awesome, and through all the imperfections, it has a pretty amazing story to tell. So, if you need some relief from the constant battle between you and your body, this song might be able to do it for you. Who knows, maybe there will even be a lasting impact of learning to love yourself.
